Jags are, and forever will be, British, no matter which multinational holds the reins. The transition from American to Indian ownership has been a beneficial one for the 90-year old brand. Where Ford treated Jaguar as just another branch in its forest of makes, Tata has made it the crown of its automotive empire. After four years of Indian ownership, it can definitively be stated that Tata has had much greater degree of respect for and understanding of Jaguar’s Britishness, but, more importantly, it has shown a greater appreciation of how the quintessential British qualities of refined elegance and stately power must be instilled into the very heart and soul of a car, not just tacked on.
