New on Prime Video in December 2023

Amazon is going big on holiday cheer this December and we’re not just talking about their slew of shopping deals. Over on Prime Video, we’ll see the release of at least three new Christmas movies. One stars Eddie Murphy as a suburban father, who makes a deal with a devious elf in order to win a neighbourhood decoration contest. It sounds…ummm…fun and festive, we guess. The streaming service is also dropping a new season of the action series Reacher along with plenty of other entertaining fare. Here’s everything new on Amazon Prime Video in December 2023.

Best New Series on Amazon Prime Video

This December, Prime Video gets the adrenaline pumping by way of a returning action hero and a new Spanish crime drama. Here are the best new series coming to Prime Video in December 2023.

Reacher: Season 2

This adaptation of a bestselling book series follows drifter Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) as he strolls into town and dispenses with all kinds of vigilante justice. The first season was a surprise smash that went to outrageous extremes and the second season will likely do the same. It puts Reacher on the trail of a brutal killer (or killers), who’s picking off members of his former army unit one by one.

Release date: 15 December 2023

Los Farad

The stakes are high in this Spanish thriller series, which takes a fish out of water and thrusts him into a world of extreme wealth and deadly violence. With dreams of opening a gym, a young man named Oskar ends up in the middle of the international arms trade in the 1980s. What, you didn’t have to traffick illegal weapons in order to achieve your personal life goals? Well, aren’t you special!?

Best New Movies on Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video brings us a healthy mix of exclusive original movies along with some major studio tentpoles this December. Ben Affleck returns for the thriller Hypnotic, while Succession‘s Brain Cox takes another turn leading Prime Video’s line-up for the month. Here’s a closer look at the best new movies on Prime Video.

Hypnotic

Director Robert Rodriguez channelled various styles and influences into this twisty tale, only to see it flounder at the box office. The story follows Detective Danny Rourke (Ben Affleck) as he searches for his missing daughter and crosses paths with a powerful cult of hypnotists along the way. Temper your expectations before viewing and you just might enjoy yourself.

Prisoner’s Daughter

This movie you’ve never heard of wrangled in some notable talent and debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022, followed by an official release earlier this year. It comes to us from director Catherine Hardwicke and stars Brian Cox as a convicted criminal, who’s let out of prison early due to a terminal cancer diagnosis. Upon moving in with his daughter (Kate Beckinsale) and grandson, the dying sinner attempts to heal old wounds.

The Donor Party

Did anyone else see this title and think it was about the Donner party, i.e. the group of American wagoneers who resorted to cannibalism during their journey westward? As for The Donor Party, it finds a single woman (Malin Akerman) throwing a party in the hopes of secretly snagging an ideal sperm donor. We’d still prefer the movie about cannibals, to be honest.

The Black Demon

This sci-fi monster movie takes place on an abandoned oil rig and pits a small family against a deadly megalodon shark. Stream it alongside The Meg 2 for a double-creature-feature chock full of outlandish moments and guilty pleasures. Or skip them both because life is short.
