Legendary speed metal band Metallica has announced an Australian leg for its record-breaking M72 World Tour, with the act set to land Down Under in November 2025. The six-date run, which also includes one show in Auckland, will mark the first time Metallica has visited Australian shores in 12 years. The long wait promises to be worth it, however, with the band members confirming that North American tour partners Suicidal Tendencies and ‘new friends’ Evanescence will join them for the entirety of the 2025 Metallica Australian tour.

The upcoming Australian Metallica tour will kick off with a massive show at Perth’s Optus Stadium on November 1, followed by events in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. It marks the continuation of the band’s best-selling M72 Tour, which arrives in support of the act’s critically acclaimed 2023 release 72 Seasons. The album, Metallica’s eleventh studio release, debuted at Number 1 on the ARIA Charts in Australia and is widely regarded as a stellar return to form.
Announcing the Australian leg of the tour, Metallica confirmed that the upcoming shows will feature the same format that American and European fans have already experienced. In August last year, the M72 tour shattered the attendance record at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, with the band playing to nearly 80,000 fans on the first of two sold-out nights. For local fans, the unique ‘Snake Pit’ set-up will feature prominently during the 2025 leg, with a string of VIP offerings also available.
“We’re setting up the stage at the end of each stadium for this run with the Snake Pit in front of it,” the band wrote on its official website. “There will be a full complement of Enhanced Experiences available, ranging from access to a meet and greet, production and stage tour, and food and beverage in the “Black Box” Lounge to early entry into the venue and the aforementioned Snake Pit. The very popular “I Disappear Ticket” will be available and is the ultimate pass for the fan who wants to run away with us for all six shows. Grab one of these and attend every show Down Under!”
The latest announcement will mark the first time Metallica has toured Australia since 2013, when the band headlined the now-defunct Soundwave festival. The ‘Master of Puppets’ performers were scheduled to return to Australia in 2019, however, the tour was cancelled after singer James Hetfield sought treatment for addiction. The subsequent COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with Australia’s strict travel restrictions, put a halt to any make-up events, and it’s only now that local fans are being rewarded.
As one of the most successful recording acts in music history, Metallica enjoys a following that few others can claim. For more than 40 years, the band has worked at redefining the genre, selling more than 125 million albums and pushing heavy metal music from the outskirts to the epicentre of mainstream music. The band’s third album, Master of Puppets, has been cited as one of the greatest metal albums of all time, while the 1991 self-titled release sold a whopping 16 million copies in the United States alone, making it the best-selling album of the SoundScan era.
For the M72 Australian dates, Metallica has confirmed that North American tour partners Suicidal Tendencies will be joining them. The Californian thrash punk band has supported Metallica across the vast majority of the M72 shows, bringing a chaotic blend of heavy riffs and hardcore punk to the stadium shows. The band has released 14 studio albums and is reportedly working on new material for an upcoming production.
Also joining the 2025 Australian Metallica tour is iconic 2000s rock act Evanescence. Best-known for the breakout hits ‘Bring Me to Life’ and ‘My Immortal’, Evanescence is one of the best-selling alternative music acts of the 21st century. The American band’s 2003 album Fallen has sold more than 17 million units worldwide, including 10 million in the U.S. alone, since its 2003 release. The band last performed in Australia in 2023 in celebration of Fallen‘s 20th anniversary.
