Killer App | The BMW 7 Series' Theater Screen

The 31″ screen has a resolution of up to 8K.

If there was one feature that really stuck out to us in all the cars we tested this year, it had to be the BMW Theater Screen. Exclusive to their flagship 7 Series sedan, the screen is available as a $4,750 option, turning the back seat into a cinematic viewing experience that is unlike anything else available in a production car today. And it’s not just any screen, the BMW Theater Screen is 31″ and has 8K resolution (8000 × 2000).

A touchscreen display is built into the door to activate the screen and various other comfort features.

Integrated into the headliner, passengers can enable the theater screen from the touchscreen and once it’s activated, the lights dim and all the blinds go up as if you were inside an actual theater. Content is streamed via a built-in 5G connection and Amazon Fire TV, allowing you to stream from your favorite services. The 32:9 aspect ratio also lets you view all your content in 16:9 or 21:9 and there’s even an HDMI port to connect to other devices.

And for the ultimate cinematic experience, the car can be configured with a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System ($4,800). The 1,965W audio system has three 25mm Diamond Nautilus tweeters, five 100mm Continuum midrange tweeters, four 50x80mm aluminum dual-opposed woofers, four 40mm aluminum 3D speakers, two 25mm aluminum ceramic metal matrix diaphragm tweeters, eight 60mm headrest speakers, eight 4D shakers, and one 200mm carbon fiber dual voicecoil subwoofer.

The 7 Series starts at $96,400.
