The long-awaited new-generation LandCruiser Prado has arrived on Australian shores, and it’s cheaper than you might expect. The rough and ready Australian-focused SUV will be available from just AUD$72,500 before on-road costs when it rolls into dealerships this month.
Toyota has confirmed that five variants—GX, GXL, VX, Kakadu, and the off-road-focused Altitude—will be offered in Australia, each boasting a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with a 48 Volt V-Active technology as standard. All that equates to around 200bhp of power and 500Nm of toque, with the vehicle operating under a standard 8-speed automatic transmission. Throw in the full-time all-wheel drive system, dual-range transfer case and a centre lockable Torsen limited-slip differential, and Toyota has made a case for the nation’s best-value SUV.
Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia vice president of sales, marketing and franchise operations, said the LandCruiser Prado’s upgraded styling, off-road capabilities and technology make this new 2025 release one of the lineup’s most enticing.
“Australians love the LandCruiser Prado for its family-friendly amenity, supreme off-road ability and the durability and reliability that makes it worthy of the LandCruiser nameplate,” Hanley said. “The all-new model takes everything that customers love about the LandCruiser Prado to a new level, along with a stylish new design, enhanced technology and greater comfort and driveability.”

In addition to the 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with a 48 Volt V-Active technology, the 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado models do offer a range of heightened off-road capabilities. The latest SUV houses the same TNGA-F architecture as its larger LandCruiser 300 Series sibling, whilst also introducing new driver assistance, multimedia and active safety technologies.
The Altitude version meanwhile takes things up a notch with a lockable rear differential and front stabiliser disconnect mechanism where the front stabiliser bar is disconnected to increase wheel articulation under extreme conditions. Ground clearance for the GX and GXL is 210mm while the VX/Altitude and the Kakadu stand taller at 221mm. Braked towing capacity is 3500kg and it has a 110-litre fuel tank.
2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado GX
The entry level five-seater GX which costs $72,500 gets features like LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera and panoramic view monitor, a 10-speaker audio system, and five USB-C charging ports, one 12V accessory port and a 220V charging port. A fabric upholstery with manually adjustable front seats and 60:40 split-fold rear seats are part of this trim along with a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, smart entry and start, plus a ‘hard-wearing urethane’ steering wheel.
2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado GXL
The $79,990 GXL meanwhile adds in 50:50 split-fold third row seats (with charging ports), roof rails, powered tailgate, rear privacy glass and silver front and rear-guard trim. You also get synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats with eight-way powered driver’s seat, leather-accented steering wheel and shift knob, rear-seat air conditioning panel and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado VX
Move up-to the seven-seat VX which costs $87,400 and here you get a black vertical grille with the Toyota bullhorn logo, body-coloured bumpers and wheelarches, 20-inch alloy wheels, and higher-spec LED headlights with automatic high beam and dynamic auto-levelling. Inside, there are more options in terms of the leather-accented upholstery with black or chateau colours, a driver’s seat lumbar support and memory, four-way power adjustable front passenger seat, power-adjustable steering wheel, carpet floor mats, refrigerated centre console, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, multi-terrain monitor, a 14 speaker JBL audio system and a tyre pressure monitor.
2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado Altitude
The Altitude ($92,700) is the most rugged avatar of the new LandCruiser Prado and the differentiation here are the 18-inch alloy wheels with Toyo Open Country all-terrain tyres, a moon roof and optional two tone exterior paint. The five-seat Altitude spec means you also get a digital rearview mirror, colour head up display, and a heated steering wheel.
2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado Kakadu
The flagship $99,990 Kakadu trim level brings in additional features like a panoramic sunroof, illuminated side steps, heated, and ventilated outboard second-row seats, a heads-up display and even an adjustable driver’s seat cushion length.
Australian-Edge
With such a popular moniker, Australia has also played a key role in the development of this new generation LandCruiser Prado since outside Japan, this was the only country where development and testing was undertaken- as it also has been the case with other LandCruisers. Various prototypes were tested across varied Australian terrain to test the towing capabilities, off-road ability and testing the mechanical components.
“With its outstanding practicality and superb on and off-road performance, the all-new LandCruiser Prado is the perfect SUV for the weekday urban commute and extended adventures beyond the tarmac,” Hanley said.
Design and Architecture
Underpinned by the TNGA-F ladder-frame architecture, the new Land Cruiser Prado has grown with a length of 4990mm (165mm) and a width of 1980mm (95mm). That has also resulted in a longer wheelbase at 2850mm (matching the bigger LC300) while the rear track has been widened by 79mm and 83mm to 1664mm and 1668mm respectively.
The design, we think, combines retro with modern elements quite well and the boxy design is a salute to its illustrious predecessors. In its more utilitarian in its ethos with the flat bonnet, low beltline, and the big glass area. The Australian market version gets rectangular headlights in place of the round ones in some markets while you have an option of eight colours to choose from.
Overall, while the new LandCruiser Prado is a lot pricier than its predecessor, there is a lot more luxury and technology on offer which would make this a more complete off-roader.
